Haemorrhoids
Haemorrhoids are anal varicose veins and are most often caused by constipation or straining during elimination. Dietary changes relieve constipation, and herbal remedies provide relief from pain.
Calendula salve
Calendula promotes healing and soothes irritation. Apply calendula salve to
the swollen veins twice every day until they subside.
Dietary suggestions for constipation
To prevent constipation, include several servings of fibre-rich foods in your
daily diet; fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and nuts. In addition,
drink at least six glasses of water a day. A diet that is rich in both fibre
and water creates bulkier, softer bowel movements.
Ease discomfort with witch hazel
To help relieve discomfort and shrink haemorrhoids, apply cotton pads soaked
with witch hazel extract several times daily. Leave in place for ten minutes
whenever possible. Witch hazel has both astringent and cooling properties.
