The Market Place

The Autonopedia Market Place serves two basic functions:

1: An ideal place to connect people with green and ecological services and suppliers and also with each other for exchange and barter.

2: A means to fund the Autonopedia project and raise funding for research and development of small scale renewable energy sources and various other eco projects.

Advertising

Individuals will be able to make use of a free classified ads system.

Businesses will be offered a variety of lo-cost advertising ranging from a simple free listing in the appropriate section to banner adverts etc.

These will be available under a variety of packages including pay-per-click (PPC) and pay-per-lead (percentage of sale made via advert)

The Scale of Possibilities

Autonopedia is going to be HUGE! What you see on this site is the UK edition and soon Autonopedia will be based around an international edition which will be published along with local editions in many other countries.

The difference being the local pages which cover services, suppliers and information (and language) that are only relevent to that country.

The download will feature links back to the main site(s) from each section, so, for instance, if you were in the renewable energy section and wanted to connect with suppliers or sevices you will click on a link and arrive at arrive at the relevant links page on the main site.

For unregistered copies this will be the main site or registered copies will lead to the local site (unless the default was chosen).

The main site will also have links to local pages in the relevant places as well

Each edition will offer community pages as well. These will focus on a town/city or county level and enable true local participation.

Raising Funding

The other purpose of the Market Place is to raise funding.

At the very least is the funding of running costs, set up costs and management costs.

Autonopedia is currently being hosted on fast high bandwidth servers that are being privately funded by one individual

There is a real possibility that even these servers will have to be upgraded once the traffic really builds up, and this sort of service is expensive.

It is therefore important that Autonopedia becomes self funding as soon as possible.

The actual content of Autonopedia is in a state of continual developement and will benefit from some decent copywriting, a lot more in the way of images and diagrams and a continual effort to make sure everything gets done.

Although a lot can be achieved on a voluntary basis, the level of production and maintenance envisaged on this project are far beyond the capabilities of the average amateur and to expect experienced professionals to give up their jobs and devote their time for free is of course ridiculous.

A small and fairly paid staff can achieve enormous amount compared to a purely voluntary group and there are highly experienced individuals who are keen to have a job working on a highly worthwhile project rather than just another commercial company even if it means a lower wage!
